Amy + Shaun Raise Heritage Breed Poultry
Our flock includes Mottled Javas, Barred Hollands, Delawares, Khaki Campbells and a few odds and ends. We prefer the handsome pure breeds as they have proven to be lively and active foragers, heat/cold tolerant, and just plain fun to watch as they scamper after butterflies and scratch through the grasses for bugs and seeds. For more information visit The American Livestock Breed Conservancy.
Many of our birds can be found on Slow Food’s – Ark of Taste.
Our flock travels around the pastures in a set-up involving a mobile coop surrounded by electric netting. The chickens happily retreat to the coop at night and are secured to ensure their safety. Each morning the doors are opened and the birds romp around the yard foraging, sunning, dust bathing, squawking and cackling. While a great deal of their diet is forage, our chickens and ducks are supplemented with grain, minerals and a few delectables from the garden.
