I’m not going to ramble too much. Here is our little home. The tent itself is 16′ x 16′, but the rain-fly that covers the tent and front and back porch is 26′ x 16′.

Here is the “kitchen.” The metal box on the side of the stove is a 5 gallon water heater.

We are mastering the limited kitchen. While the weather is cool we can keep limited quantities of hen fruit (eggs), as long as they fresh from the chicken.

The “bedroom.” We are still working on the storage issue.

I’m sure some of you are wondering, so here is the “bathroom.” We are currently building a small structure to accommodate the toilet as well as some more storage.

Alabaster, now a cat of the great outdoors.

We are teaching Frankfurter that the chicks are his “babies.” A little background on Frank: We always let him pick out his own toys at the store and he always picks birds. He doesn’t chew them up, he just grooms them and cuddles with them. If you make his toys squeak he whimpers, takes them away from you and then grooms it. We don’t actually let him have much direct contact with the chicks, but he looks in on them often.

Another beautiful morning.

your tent is amazing! frontier style meets the 21st century.
a friend told me about ‘cowboy coffee’. it’s basically unfiltered grounds boiled right in the water. she loves it, but says it’s very intense. do you still filter your coffee? bah! city slickers!
aha, that’s the same composting toilet i saw on pbs a few months ago. great unit.
i bet frank loves it out there. doggy paradise!
this may be answered somewhere, but do you guys have plans for a wind generator or solar panels? i’ve seen some nice, small units that would be great.
check out http://greengrover.com/ if you haven’t.
great products. solar-powered fans, ovens, and walklights. and links to great resources for rainwater collection, etc. it’s great!
you guys are amazing. i like the digs.
I am literally almost crying over Frank with the chicks. So incredible! I love that guy.
But tell us, what about bathing? What facilities do you have for that? Everything looks so beautiful and perfect and lovely with your touches.
P.S. The cowboy coffee is also Polish coffee as our dear Suka always made at the zoo during lunch breaks. Oh Suka.
Bathing: Right now while it is still pretty cool at night we just have a few wash basins that we fill with hot water from the stove’s water heater and sponge bath. Once it warms up we are going to put an outdoor shower back in the trees.
Coffee: Sorry to disappoint, but our coffee is a bit more fancy. We start by grinding organic, fair-trade beans in a hand crank mill, then either we brew in our french press or our stove top espresso maker.
Suka! I was just thinking of her yesterday. Remember the weird “lifelike” baby advertisement she hung on the fridge and with comments and highlighting. Those were the days…
Bathing: Looking forward to the shower. Actually bathing is fine but I really don’t look forward to washing my hair when I know I will have to carry a 3 gallon bottle from the car through the pasture. A well and running water will be nice!
“How weird that is??” Isn’t that what she wrote on it?!
Ahhh…I miss hearing suka. Your house is awesome! 100x nicer than any home I’ll ever have. Amazing. I would love to live in a place where I didn’t have to bathe regularly. I guess I shouldn’t admit that.
P.S. My three dogs are so jealous of Frank when they saw the pics. The pressure is on.
I am linking to you from my own blog. I hope it’s okay for me to use the photo of your home?
